9 Months Pregnant
– The end of your pregnancy period!
This is the last month of your pregnancy and now there are only few days left to keep your little one in your hands. Now the baby is in head down position and at any time he/she is ready to face the world. Now be prepared with all the essentials that you need for your hospital stay. Though you are tired, you may feel happy when you pack and prepare for your big day.
During your last visit to your obstetrician, ask if you still have any questions on your mind regarding labor and delivery. During the last month, you need to meet your obstetrician each week. During each visit, the doctor performs an internal exam to check your cervix for changes that indicate the labor signs.
As your baby is still growing, he/she will gain a significant weight during this month. Some women may also notice a weight reduction during this month because of the drop in the production of amniotic fluid.
Braxton Hicks contractions: You may feel more frequent contractions as you are very near to your due date. Also, you should know how the real contractions will be.
- They do not stop even you move or alter your position.
- They start in the back and slowly radiate around your abdomen.
- Contractions occur more than five times an hours
- Contractions last for 30 to 70 seconds.
- They increase in force as the time passes.
- Their intensity increases when you walk around.
- They come at regular intervals.
Some other signs that indicate the labor is leakage of amniotic fluid, sudden diarrhea, and the leakage of mucus plug. The dilation of cervix starts and it becomes thinner as it prepared for the birth.
Frequent urination:Your frequent bathroom visits will continue during pregnancy month 9 also. The more the increase in baby weight, the greater the pressure it puts on the bladder. So you will feel a frequent urge to urinate. This month, the baby sets in head down position to get ready for the upcoming birth.
Increased fatigue:Most women become easily tired during 9th month of pregnancy while some others feel extra energy. Don’t worry this is completely common because the baby is still developing. During pregnancy month 9, usually the baby gains 2½ pounds weight and 2 inches length. Overall, you may feel very uncomfortable with the increased pressure and baby weight. So, it is important to take as much rest as you can.
Increased swelling:You may notice increase in the swelling of ankles and feet. Also you may notice a slight bulging in your face.
What happens with your baby when you are 9 months pregnant?
During pregnancy month 9, your baby will gain half pound per week. By the end of this month, the baby weighs 6 to 9 pounds and is 19 to 21 inches long.When you have completed pregnancy week 38, the baby is said to be full-term. Now he/she is almost developed and just waiting for the right time.
Lung development:By this month, the baby’s lungs have an adequate level of surfactant in them, which allows him/her to survive outside the womb.
Bone development:Bones in the baby’s head are soft and flexible, to enable the easy passage through the pelvis. There is rapid blood flow through the umbilical cord that prevents it from getting twisted.
Some other developments in your baby include:
- Now kidneys can produce more urine than before.
- Baby’s hair becomes thicker.
- Nails grow longer.
- The little one’s reflexes have developed quite acute, and he/she will be ready to hold your little finger tightly as soon as the birth.
What are the physical changes that occur in a 9 months pregnant woman?
You will continue to gain the weight. Your breasts will become even bigger, tender and leak milk as they are preparing for breast feeding.
Most women look huge, bloated and unattractive but don’t worry as it is perfectly normal. After the birth, with postpartum exercise and diet, you will become normal.
Suddenly if you notice more painful contractions and noticean odorless and colorlessvaginal discharge, then it is the time to call themidwife as the water just broke and baby is ready to get out!
Try to relax as much as possible and think about only positive aspects regarding the things ahead. Make some time to read about the first days of your baby so that it will help to prevent panic, tension and nervousness after the delivery. Have warm bath, listen to relaxing music and drink small quantity of tea for a more relaxed attitude.
With the increased belly size, it will be more difficult for you to breath. So, it is better to learn breathing techniques and also make use of your prenatal yoga classes. Also, when you have entered into the labor, these breathing techniques will help you a lot.
Make yourself be prepared mentally and physically about the things going to happen. Maintain healthy diet and take vitamin supplements regularly. Eat small amounts for several times and take healthy foods.
You should not smoke or drink alcohol as they can severely harm your baby. You should be proud of yourself for facing all those challenges, pains, aches and discomforts. Now you are within the reach of that long awaited moment. So, how much preparation you made will have a huge impact on how you manage the pains during the labor.
