Abortion is ending of pregnancy with surgical procedures or medicines. Legal definition of abortion is termination of pregnancy. Some women consider abortion because their pregnancy may threaten their life or their health or if their babies have severe birth defects. Whatever the reason, risks of abortion should be considered before getting this procedure.
Almost 10% of women, who undergo the abortion procedure suffer from immediate risks of abortion, and in those 2% were considered as major complications. Most of the complications will not apparent for many days, months and even for years.
Here are the risks of abortion, which may also cause death:
2 to 3% of abortion cases may find uterine perforation. However most of these conditions will remain untreated and even undiagnosed unless laparoscopic visualization is done. Risk of getting uterine perforation is high for women who have already gave birth to a child and for those who will get general anesthesia while abortion process. Damage to uterine may cause complications in the later pregnancy and also cause problems that need hysterectomy.
Abortion can increase the risk for getting this condition in later pregnancies. Abnormal development of placenta because of uterine damage can increase the fetal malformation risk, excessive bleeding, and perinatal death.
Liver, Ovarian and Cervical Cancer:
Women who have abortion are 2.3 times more likely to get cervical cancer. Women who have more than 2 abortions have 4.92 times higher risk, compared to normal women. These kinds of increased cancer rates for aborted women can cause unnatural disruptions of hormonal fluctuations and have negative impact of depression and stress on immune system.
According to a study, women who get aborted were approximately 4 times more likely to die in the following years compared to normal women.
